Boat Owners: It could be time to buy new registration decals

Summer boating season ending is just around the corner, and so is the deadline for renewing boat and watercraft registration decals. In Kentucky, all boat registrations expire in May for the following year.

In February, owners of boats and watercraft received a postcard notifying them that the Department of Licensing (DOL) will no longer send paper renewal reminders, as funding for printing and mailing these reminders has been eliminated. The postcard encouraged owners to sign up online at https://drive.ky.gov/Vehicles/Pages/Boats.aspx to receive renewal reminders via email.

DOL will send email renewal reminders in May to those who have registered for this service. To receive a reminder, boat owners must sign up on the DOL website no later than May. Those who sign up after this deadline will not receive a renewal reminder until the following year.

Boat registrations can be renewed online or in person at a local vehicle licensing office. For those opting to renew in person, please ensure to note the registration number located on the bow of the boat or watercraft, as this information will be needed at the office.
